Reviewed by CasinoCheck NG Editorial Desk on 4 September 2026. The method used was to compare the proposed redaction workflow against dated primary records from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). No betting account, deposit, KYC, withdrawal or support test was conducted. The guidance concerns evidence handling, not the merits of any individual complaint.

Start with an unedited private master

Betting complaint evidence redaction should begin by preserving the original material privately. Keep the first screenshot, bank alert, statement extract, email, chat export, identity document or account record unchanged. Work only on duplicates. An unedited master helps preserve context if an authorised recipient later asks for a clearer copy or questions whether a date, amount or transaction reference was altered.

Create a simple inventory before editing. Give each item a neutral filename, such as 01-withdrawal-request or 02-bank-transfer, and record its date, source and purpose. Do not put a password, PIN, OTP, full BVN or full identity-document number in the filename. Store the master separately from the redacted copies and limit access to people who genuinely need it.

Evidence itemKeep visible where relevantUsually remove from a shared copy
Betting account screenshotDate, status, NGN amount, transaction reference and relevant account identifierPassword, security answers, unrelated balance details and unrelated bets
Bank recordTransaction date, amount, narration, reference and relevant sender or recipientPIN, card security code, unrelated transactions and unnecessary account details
KYC documentName or limited identifier only when needed to connect the complaint to the accountUnnecessary document number, machine-readable zone, signature and unrelated personal data
CorrespondenceSender, recipient, date, case number and relevant messagesUnrelated conversations, access links and third-party personal information

Preserve the facts that allow tracing

A useful redacted record should still let the recipient follow the event. Preserve the date and time, NGN amount, transaction reference, complaint reference, status message and the part of the correspondence that explains the dispute. If several screenshots form one sequence, number them and retain enough surrounding context to show their order.

FCCPC says consumers may support complaints with receipts, agreements and correspondence. It also says a submitted complaint receives a tracking code that can be used to monitor progress, while resolution time varies and submission is not itself a finding against a business. FCCPC complaint-handling record, checked 4 September 2026.

Do not crop so closely that the recipient can no longer identify what happened. Redaction should conceal information, not change a transaction status, splice messages together or remove wording that materially affects meaning. Keep a short redaction note stating what was hidden and why.

Remove credentials and unnecessary identifiers

Never include a betting password, bank PIN or OTP in a complaint attachment or message. CBN expressly says PINs and passwords must not be included when a customer escalates a complaint to its Consumer Protection Department. CBN consumer complaint record, checked 4 September 2026.

A BVN or identity document may help link a person to an account, but that does not mean every recipient needs the complete number. Where identity is relevant, show only the minimum required for the recipient to distinguish the case, unless an authorised body requests more through a verified and appropriate channel. A practical masking format leaves only a small identifying portion visible, such as the final few digits, without claiming that one masking pattern satisfies every recipient.

When trying to protect KYC documents in a complaint in Nigeria, also inspect QR codes, barcodes, document backs, signatures, addresses, dates of birth and machine-readable lines. A black shape placed over text is not enough if the underlying text can still be selected, copied or recovered. Export a flattened redacted copy and inspect the final file before sending it.

Prepare a different copy for each route

The operator, bank and regulator may need different evidence. Avoid sending one oversized bundle to everyone. The betting operator may need the betting account identifier and disputed transaction. The bank may need the transfer reference and evidence of the earlier bank complaint. A consumer body may need the chronology, correspondence and proof that reasonable first steps were taken.

Recipient routeCore materialImportant exclusion or check
Betting operatorAccount identifier, disputed event, date, NGN amount and relevant correspondenceRemove banking credentials and unrelated KYC data
Bank or payment institutionTransaction history, reference, prior complaint and betting-side record needed to explain the transferNever include PINs, passwords or OTPs
CBN escalationTransaction history and evidence of the complaint first made to the regulated financial institutionVerify that the bank-first process and waiting period apply; exclude PINs and passwords
FCCPC complaintRelevant receipts, agreements, correspondence and a concise chronologyKeep the tracking code after submission; filing does not prove wrongdoing
NDPC privacy routeDescription of the suspected privacy violation and only the records needed to show itDo not expose more personal data while reporting a data concern

For route planning, consult the bank, operator and regulator complaint route. If account access may have been taken over, use the separate account-takeover and police-report checklist.

Handle bank escalation and suspected compromise carefully

CBN says a customer must complain first to the regulated financial institution, allow up to two weeks, and may then escalate to the Consumer Protection Department with transaction history and evidence of the earlier complaint. CBN consumer complaint record, checked 4 September 2026. Keep the bank’s acknowledgement, complaint reference and dates because they establish the sequence without exposing credentials.

If a message asking for evidence appears suspicious, verify the sender directly rather than using a link in that message. CBN advises people to verify senders directly, avoid suspicious links and sensitive-information disclosure, contact their financial institution immediately after compromise, change passwords and use two-factor authentication. CBN fraud and scam guidance, checked 4 September 2026.

Redaction cannot secure an already compromised account. If an OTP, password or PIN has been exposed, treat that as a security incident rather than merely editing the screenshot. Do not send replacement credentials as evidence.

Choose the regulator by the issue, not the name

A payment complaint, consumer complaint, privacy violation and state-licence issue are not interchangeable. Confirm the operator identity, relevant state licence and subject of the complaint before addressing a regulator. Guidance on checking those details is available in the casino licence verification checklist.

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority should appear as a recipient only where the verified licence and subject matter make that route relevant. No claim about a particular operator’s Lagos licence is made here. FCCPC’s process may be relevant to a consumer complaint and accepts supporting records such as receipts, agreements and correspondence; a tracking code is provided, but filing is not a finding against the business. FCCPC complaint-handling record, checked 4 September 2026.

The NDPC Information Management Portal provides an official route for reporting a breach in data protection or a privacy violation. NDPC portal record, checked 4 September 2026. Use that route when the concern is the handling, exposure or misuse of personal data, while disclosing only what is needed to explain the issue.

Record every redaction and transmission

Maintain a redaction log beside the private master. For each shared file, record its filename, recipient, date sent, delivery method and the categories removed. A useful entry might say: “Full BVN masked; last digits retained to connect the bank record; unrelated transactions removed.” The log should not repeat the concealed information.

Before transmission, check that the recipient address or portal is genuine, the attachments open correctly and no hidden metadata or recoverable layers reveal removed content. Keep acknowledgements, tracking codes and final copies exactly as sent. If the bundle changes, issue a new version rather than silently replacing an earlier file.

Evidence limits and practical conclusion

No green, amber or red signal is assigned because this is a procedural evidence-handling guide, not an assessment of a named betting operator or complaint outcome. The official records confirm particular complaint and privacy routes, but they do not establish that any individual claim is valid, that a regulator has jurisdiction over every betting dispute, or that one redaction format will satisfy every recipient.

Jurisdiction can depend on the regulated financial institution, the nature of the transaction, the operator’s verified state licence and whether the issue concerns consumer treatment, payment handling or privacy. Requirements may also change after the 4 September 2026 review date. Verify the current recipient and requested documents before sending sensitive material.

Frequently asked questions

What should I redact from a betting complaint screenshot?

Remove passwords, PINs, OTPs, security answers, unnecessary document numbers, unrelated transactions and third-party personal information. Keep the relevant date, NGN amount, transaction reference, status and complaint correspondence visible so the event can still be traced.

Should I include my PIN or password in a CBN complaint?

No. CBN says PINs and passwords must not be included in an escalated complaint. Preserve transaction history and evidence of the earlier complaint to the regulated financial institution instead. CBN record checked 4 September 2026.

Can I hide part of my BVN or identity document?

Mask portions that are unnecessary for the recipient while keeping only enough information to connect the evidence to the complaint. If an authorised recipient requires more, verify the request and channel before providing it; no single masking pattern is guaranteed to satisfy every process.

How do I keep an unedited complaint record safely?

Keep a private, access-limited master and edit only duplicates. Record filenames, dates, sources, redactions, recipients and transmission dates without copying concealed credentials into the log. Retain the exact redacted version sent and any acknowledgement or tracking code.

When should a betting-data issue be reported to NDPC?

Consider the NDPC route when the issue concerns a breach in data protection or a privacy violation. The NDPC Information Management Portal provides an official reporting route, checked 4 September 2026; disclose only the information needed to explain the concern.
